How Strava Integration Helps You Understand the Mood-Exercise Connection
You already know exercise makes you feel better. But how much better? And which workouts have the biggest impact on your mood? With FeelTrack’s new Strava integration, you can finally see the data behind the feeling.
Why We Built This
Every day, millions of athletes log their runs, rides, and swims on Strava. And every day, FeelTrack users check in with their emotions. We realized these two data streams — physical effort and emotional state — tell a powerful story when combined.
Research consistently shows that exercise improves mood, reduces anxiety, and builds emotional resilience. But the relationship is personal. A 5K jog might leave one person euphoric and another drained. Morning yoga might be your secret weapon, or it might be that lunchtime cycling session that resets your day.
The only way to know is to track both sides — and that’s exactly what this integration does.
What You Get
Automatic Workout Sync
Once you connect your Strava account, your workouts flow into FeelTrack automatically. Every run, ride, swim, hike, and gym session appears in your Health Dataroom alongside your mood check-ins.
We sync the metrics that matter most for mood correlation:
- Workout type — running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and 100+ Strava sport types
- Duration — how long you moved
- Distance — how far you went
- Heart rate — average and max HR during the activity
- Calories burned — total energy expenditure
The Health Dataroom
Your Strava data lives in the Health Dataroom — a dedicated analytics space where you can explore how your physical activity relates to your emotional patterns.
The Workouts tab gives you a clear breakdown of your recent activities, while the Correlations tab does the heavy lifting: computing statistical correlations between your exercise habits and mood scores over time.
Real Insights, Not Guesses
FeelTrack’s correlation engine uses your actual data to surface patterns like:
- “Your mood scores are 15% higher on days you exercise vs. rest days”
- “Morning workouts correlate with higher positive affect in the afternoon”
- “High-intensity sessions (above 160 BPM avg) tend to precede your best mood days”
These aren’t generic wellness tips — they’re patterns discovered in your data.
How to Connect
Getting started takes about 30 seconds:
- Go to Settings → Health Integrations
- Find Strava in the available integrations list
- Click Connect and authorize FeelTrack on Strava
- Your recent workouts sync automatically
That’s it. No API keys, no manual exports, no spreadsheets. Your data flows securely from Strava to FeelTrack using OAuth 2.0 — the same standard used by banks and healthcare apps.
Privacy First
Your Strava data flows directly from Strava’s servers to FeelTrack. No third-party aggregators, no middleware, no data brokers. We store only the metrics needed for mood correlation — we don’t access your social feed, followers, or route maps.
You can disconnect Strava at any time from the integrations page, and all synced workout data is permanently deleted.
What’s Next
Strava is one of six health integrations we’re building. Alongside workout data, we’re adding:
- Sleep tracking via Fitbit and Oura — because sleep quality might be the single biggest mood predictor
- Recovery metrics via Whoop — strain, recovery score, and HRV
- Body composition via Withings — weight, body fat, and resting heart rate trends
- Comprehensive health via Garmin — Body Battery, stress, and all-day activity
Each new integration adds another dimension to your mood-health picture. The more data points you connect, the richer the correlations become.
